Shakey and the Be Wiser Ducati on track at Cartagena this morning - briefly!

Arriving a day later than rival BSB teams, Be Wiser Ducati duo Shane Byrne and Glenn Irwin made their first appearance at the Cartagena pre-season shakedown this morning.

But Shakey’s outing only lasted a couple of laps before he had to return to the pits for alterations to his Panigale.

“I feel like a kid in a sweet shop who has been told to leave!” he laughed.

“Yesterday all the guys got to ride for the first time and blow the cobwebs out but we missed the first session because of preparation work and then I had a little bit of an issue with the bike and I only got to do three laps!”

“I’ve been so excited to get out and ride with everyone else on track but from the out lap it was obvious things were not as they should be. Its nothing the boys can’t fix and we will be back out this afternoon.”

Byrne and Irwin have already tested as a team at Portimao and Almeria but it is the opportunity to gauge the Ducatis against the rest of the BSB opposition that last year’s championship runner up is looking forward to most.

“The other tests went well but we had no real reference for the times between a WSB spec superbike and a BSB bike.” he explained.

“We have a lot of new parts on the bike and we need a bit of time to get them all sorted. I got a quick chance to measure the bike this morning against some of the opposition and even though my bike wasn’t running that well in the session the speed seems OK.

So there is lots to look forward starting this afternoon.”
