Hickman unable to get to grips with wet weather at Oulton

Peter Hickman left the second round of the 2016 MCE British Superbike championship disappointed after he was unable to repeat his race-winning form from the opening round at Silverstone.

The Louth-based rider could only manage a pair of 12th places as he struggled to get to grips with the mixed conditions at Oulton Park.

With both of his JG Speedfit Kawasaki teammates outpacing him across the weekend, including Leon Haslam taking victory in the first race, Hickman was left scratching his head as to what the problem was.

“I’ll be honest, that was a really disappointing weekend,” he said. “On Saturday, during the dry practice we were comfortably running top six and I believe we had the pace to have been challenging for the podium if conditions were better. In the wet I just couldn’t get the laps together or get going quick enough – but then when the track dried I was one of the quickest guys on the circuit in the final laps of the second race.

“As we proved last time out, and Leon and James proved this weekend, two twelfth positions is not where the team, the bike or I should be. We’ll be back at Brands though ready to make amends.”
