BSB: 'Pressure is on' says Brookes ahead of Silverstone decider

Josh Brookes hasn’t lost sight of clinching the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship trophy at the end of the year despite a difficult weekend last time out at Cadwell Park.

Just a handful of points from the Lincolnshire circuit saw him drop to fifth in the championship standings, leaving a clear target on his back ahead of Silverstone this weekend with nine riders fighting for a spot in the three round title Showdown.

This weekend’s three races present a final opportunity for riders to bag points and get in that all-important top six, and while Brookes admits the pressure is on, he says he won’t be letting that get to him.

“It’s so tight at the top this year,” he told MCN. “If I had stayed on at Thruxton and Brands I’d be second in the championship. Two mistakes and that’s how it is. It’s one of those years where everyone is strong, it’s perfect for the spectators! The best you can do is all you can do.

“Of course the pressure is on ahead of Silverstone, the whole reason we are here is to be in the Showdown and in with a chance of the championship. I think we’re still in that window and with three races at Silverstone there’s a huge number of points to gain, but there’s that same number of points to lose.

“Pressure doesn’t make you perform better, you need to keep a cool calm head, ride the best you can and do the right preparation with the team across the weekend and hopefully the right result will come. We’ve a decent number of podium points so if we can get into the showdown we can fight for the title.”
