BSB: Stapleford to stand in for McConnell at Silverstone

Luke Stapleford will make a return to the MCE British Superbike Championship at Silverstone as he stands in for the injured Billy McConnell at Quattro-Plant FS3 Kawasaki.

The 2015 British Supersport Champion made his Superbike debut at Silverstone with the GBmoto Kawasaki team just after sealing the Supersport title, and will return to the series for a one-off appearance ahead of the resumption of the Supersport World Championship at Portimao in three weeks’ time.

McConnell has been out of action since a big crash at Thruxton earlier this month, which saw him sustain a badly dislocated femur. It’s not currently known whether the Aussie will be back in action before the end of the year.

“I’m really looking forward to getting another taste of a Superbike especially at Silverstone which is a circuit I really enjoy and haven’t ridden for a couple of years now,” said Stapleford, who currently sits 12th in the World Supersport standings.

“With the long break in our current calendar it creates some good opportunities do some other events and I’d like to thanks the whole Quattro Plant FS3 Racing team for the opportunity and wish Billy McConnell a speedy recovery.

“I have some great memories of racing at Silverstone and hopefully I will be able to give the team a couple of strong finishes along with some more feedback to help them progress.”
