BSB: Hickman: 'It made no sense to go anywhere else!'

Peter Hickman is hoping remaining with the same team for the second year in a row for the first time in his career will help him take the next step he needs in both the British Superbike Championship and on the roads next year.

The Lincoln-based rider had a stellar season in both BSB and on the international road racing scene, securing his best-ever BSB championship finish while clocking up an incredible five podiums at the Isle of Man TT and a handful of wins at the Ulster Grand Prix.

As reported by MCN back in August, Hickman agreed to remain with the Smiths team shortly after the 2017 Ulster Grand Prix as he looks to continue to further his reputation as one of the best all-round motorcycle racers the UK currently has to offer.

“This is the first time I’ve stayed with the same team on the same bike, so I’m thrilled to be back with Smiths on the BMW in 2018,” he told MCN. “This year was great for us, we were strong in BSB, reaching the Showdown for the first time while also enjoying a lot of success on the roads.

“While it is only just being announced, I agreed that I would remain with Rebecca quite some time ago as while there were options elsewhere, it made so much sense to stick where I was as I’m sure we can hit the ground running after what we’ve done this year.

“We know we have a lot more to come so I can’t wait to get started and I genuinely feel I can push for the BSB championship next year. We had a great package on the roads too.”
