BSB: Iddon and Tyco BMW end year on a high

1 of 1

Christian Iddon won the 2017 Riders’ Cup after a dramatic improvement in form saw him and the Tyco BMW return to the podium at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Fast throughout practice, Iddon secured a front row start in qualifying after the team made ‘dramatic changes’ to his BMW S1000RR, but neither Iddon nor Tyco BMW would comment on what it was they’d actually done.

Whatever it was, it seemed to work with Iddon pushing Byrne for the win in both of the opening races to finish second twice before a fifth place in the final race of the weekend saw him secure the best-placed non-Showdown spot.

“It’s not personally a great ahivement to win the Riders’ Cup,” Iddon said.  “It’s a trophy for finishing seventh and means I wasn’t in the Showdown, but hopefully it’s some payback to the Tyco BMW squad as they have given me their all this year.

“It’s a shame how the middle of the season panned out for us, but it’s great to finish the year on a high. We found a great direction this weekend, and I’m still not telling you what we did, but it’s definitely a direction we can go in for next season, so for me everything is positive.”
