BSB: Ellison: 'We've still work to do but the aim is to win'

James Ellison is hoping to clinch his first race victory with the Anvil Hire TAG Racing squad as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship hits Brands Hatch for the second round of the 2018 season this weekend.

Having admitted he was surprised to have such strong pace at Donington Park last weekend given there’s still work to do with the bike, Ellison is quietly confident ahead of the weekend at a circuit where he holds both the outright and race lap records.

“Ahead of Donington, I didn’t feel like I was in a position to win because I wasn’t feeling comfortable on the bike. It was OK, but there were still a a bit I needed to be fully there so I was pleasantly surprised to be fighting at the front in the races.

“I think a lot of people thought it was a bit of a fluke for the team with Josh last year, but the reason they were up there is because they are a strong team. I’m a strong rider and together we can have a good season.

“I do go well at Brands Indy, and the only issue with that is expectations are really high! We know we still have work to do and must focus on making the bike stronger than it was at Donington.

“The aim is to win races, my expectations aren’t too high but I’m confident it’s going to be a good weekend. The goal is to win races, that’s always the goal and my main focus. We’ll know a lot more after FP1, but I’m heading there confident and very excited.”
