BSB: Irwin: 'The Showdown has to happen for us!'

1 of 1

Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin has said anything but a Showdown place leaving Silverstone this weekend will be a failure as he looks to bounce back from the shoulder injury that saw him struggle last time out at Cadwell Park.

Irwin fell in the late stages of FP1 at the Lincolnshire circuit and sustained a shoulder injury which put him on the backburner for the remainder of the weekend.

However, the Ducati man holds a hefty advantage in third place and should, barring disaster, be able to confirm his Showdown spot in Saturday’s opening race.

“Mathematically we aren’t in the Showdown, but I’d like to think it would take something huge if we don’t get in – that would be a disaster and mean we’ve failed, the Showdown has to happen for us!” Irwin told MCN.

I’m trying not to think about it, in my own head I’m there. If we can get back to good fortune again I’ll be happy, we’ve had it rough lately – we’ve not been slow anywhere but four poor races and an injury. My shoulder is fine now, but we’re racing at a circuit with only one left hander so that’s even better!”
