Former MotoGP rider Bradley Smith will make a wildcard appearance in the Quattro Group British GP2 Championship at Snetterton.

Smith will line-up alongside existing riders Mason Law and Jamie Perrin in Norfolk, as he continues to expand his Project 109 team ahead the 2022 season. Currently competing in ESBK (Spanish Superbike Championship), Smith’s team will race in next year’s FIM CEV European Moto2 Championship using the all-new Spirit SP3, powered by the Triumph 765cc engine.

The 30-year-old will ride the current Spirit SP2 model, which led Law to victory at Snetterton last season. Law went on to win the 2020 title. Before his wildcard appearance, Smith will have track time at Snetterton to acclimatise to both the bike and circuit.

Smith has a vast range of experience having been inside the Grand Prix paddock since 2006, with his first victory coming in the 125cc class at Jerez in 2009. He followed that up with another victory at Mugello, making him the first Brit since Barry Sheene (1979) to win two or more wins in a season across all the solo classes. Smith ended the year with three victories and the runner-up spot.

He then spent two seasons in Moto2 (2011-2012), securing three podiums a best overall position of seventh before earning a promotion to MotoGP. The Oxfordshire rider has two MotoGP podiums to his name – with a best result of second at Misano -and finished the 2015 season in sixth place, finishing every race in the top 10.

Smith rode for Tech3 Yamaha, Red Bull KTM and Aprilia during his time in the premier class, whilst he also finished on the podium in MotoE.
