Danny Buchan will miss this weekend’s Bennetts British Superbike race meeting at Cadwell Park after suffering a concussion yesterday (August 15) at Donington Park.

Buchan had a big crash at the Old Hairpin in the second race of the weekend and hit the ground hard as a result. The safety car was released immediately whilst the SYNETIQ BMW rider was taken to the medical centre.

Due to the diagnosis being a suspected concussion, Buchan was unable to take any further part in the weekend, and he’ll also be unable to race at Cadwell Park for that very same reason.

“It just wasn’t my weekend and I’m feeling a little second hand, but we will be back at Snetterton to get this Showdown effort back on track,” Buchan said. “I’m still in fourth place in the standings despite a difficult weekend at Donington but congratulations to Andrew [Irwin] on his podium.

“Thanks to everyone for their messages and I’ll be counting down the days to get back into my SYNETIQ BMW leathers at Snetterton.”

Prior to his crash, Donington Park had already proven to be a tough experience for Buchan on the M1000RR. The Knockhill double race winner qualified 18th on the grid for race one, before coming home 13th in that race.

“Clearly our thoughts are with Danny after he was ruled out with concussion following a nasty crash in race two, SYNETIQ BMW team principal Philip Neil added. “This isn’t a disaster as his injuries could easily have been worse, although it is clearly a set back after Danny’s early season form and fourth place in the championship standings. We look forward to welcoming Danny back at Snetterton.”

Despite crashing out of race two and missing the final race, Buchan remains fourth overall in the standings. Buchan has 14 podium credits to his name, which is nine fewer than Christian Iddon in third, and one more than Tommy Bridewell in fifth.

Missing Cadwell Park is a huge shame for Buchan, who secured a victory and a third the last time the series visited the Lincolnshire circuit in 2019. Buchan also won at Cadwell Park in the Superstock 1000 class in 2017, on route to the title.

Buchan wasn’t the only rider to visit the medical centre on Sunday. Danny Kent dislocated and fractured his hip at Coppice, and will undergo surgery tomorrow (August 17), whilst Glenn Irwin dislocated his shoulder in race two.
