BSB Cadwell Park: McAMS Yamaha and Tito Rabat part company

Tito Rabat and McAMS Yamaha have parted company ahead of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship meeting at Cadwell Park this weekend.

The 2014 Moto2 World Champion joined the team as a replacement for Tim Neave, who decided to take time away from racing, at Snetterton in July.

After an impressive weekend which saw Rabat qualify on the front row and take two top 10s, the Spaniard was signed up for Brands Hatch, Thruxton and Cadwell.

However, tough weekends at Brands and Thruxton followed and as a result both parties have opted not to continue the partnership any further.

“We’ll be purely focusing on Jason weekend as we look to close down that gap to the front,” McAMS Yamaha team owner, Steve Rodgers said.

“Tito showed a lot of promise at Snetterton, but BSB poses a very unique challenge and Brands Hatch and Thruxton were tough weekends for him at tracks where the bike worked well so we’ve mutually agreed not to extend our three-round agreement.”

Alongside his BSB exploits, Tito Rabat is also competing in the MotoE World Championship with the Prettl Pramac squad. Rabat is 14th in the championship having taken a best result of sixth in the season opener at Le Mans. He’s also racing in the World Superbike Championship with Puccetti Racing Kawasaki.

Meanwhile, O’Halloran heads to Cadwell Park full of confidence having won all three races at Thruxton. The Aussie is now the most successful Yamaha rider in BSB history in terms of race wins, collecting 25 victories so far with Rodgers’ team.

The three wins saw O’Halloran close the deficit to championship leader Tommy Bridewell to 50.5 points, whilst he’s only 24 points behind Glenn Irwin. Both Bridewell and Irwin had tough weekends at Thruxton.

“It was an incredible weekend at Thruxton for us from start to finish, pole position and three race wins was about as good as it gets,” O’Halloran said. “Now we look forward to Cadwell Park and try to take this momentum forward.

“It’s a track that I love, a home track for me in the UK; I love everything about it, but it is difficult – it’s a tough track and it is always a tough race there. A lot of riders go fast there so I expect another competitive weekend.”

McAMS Yamaha, BSB winners in 2021 with Tarran Mackenzie will leave the championship at the end of the 2023 season. OMG Racing will take over as the official Yamaha supported team.
