Update: Rossi crashes out of Rally

Valentino Rossi scored a spectacular first in the Rally of Britain this morning – by being the first person to retire.

After climbing to 25th place after last night’s special stage, this morning the Rally took to the roads of the Welsh forest to begin the rally proper.

Rossi was apparently unsighted by low sun and slid off the road on some gravel and wedged his Peugeot 206 on a tree stump. Despite the efforts of around 20 spectators it couldn’t be lifted off and he was forced to retire.
