KTM has officially announced an entry into the 250cc Road Racing World Championship in 2005, with Casey Stoner likely to move up a class.

The Austrian firm confirmed the decision at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno.

“We have a lot of work in front of us, said managing director, Stefan Pierer. ” The first year will be for testing and experience. Nobody can build a winning bike behind close doors, and at the moment it looks like Casey Stoner is committed to developing this project along with KTM.”

Pierer also confirmed that KTM will continue to compete in the 125cc class, but riders have not yet been confirmed.

Stoner is currently fifth in the 2004 125cc championship, with team-mate Mika Kallio in 11th.
