Young British rider Richard Cooper clinched the BMW Youngstar championship with a fifth place at the final round at Valencia.

The 21-year-old took the title by one point from Frenchman Guillaume Dietrich to win a brand new Mini Cooper car, and take ninth place overall in the championship for BMW Motorrad Great Britain.

His title comes in the final year of the Boxer Cup as it is set to be replaced in 2005. Fellow Brit Barry Burrell also finished on a high note with an eighth in the race, and 11th overall in the standings. Calvin Hogan finished 16th overall.

The full Boxer Cup championship went to Austrian Thomas Hinterreiter, from Brian Parriott and Markus Barth. The champion failed to finish the Valencia race, with the win going to Gwen Giabbani.
