Sete Gibernau has gone fastest in the second free practice session for the opening MotoGP round at Jerez in Spain on Sunday, April 10, 2005.

Gibernau heads fellow Honda rider Nicky Hayden, and the surprise package of John Hopkins on the Suzuki. Reigning champion Valentino Rossi is down in fifth, behind Marco Melandri, and is the only Yamaha in the top eight, with team-mate Colin Edwards in ninth. Brits Shane Byrne and James Ellison are in 19th and 22nd.

The format of race weekends has changed for the MotoGP class, with no qualifying on Friday, and two free practice sessions instead. But with just one qualifying session, all the riders will trying to get their set-ups just right for their shot at getting on the front of the grid.
