Rossi wins in Brno drama

Valentino Rossi has won the Czech Grand Prix at Brno on Sunday August 28,2005, as dramatic action unfolded all around him.

The race unfolded with several battles throughout the field. But it was the top two, Rossi and Sete Gibernau, who built to a shocking climax. Several times the lead swapped between the pair, with both riders balancing on the edge of adhesion. Both the Yamaha and Honda riders had moments during the race and both gave away the lead and ran wide at some point.

The final lap was set for a huge anti-climax when suddenly Sete Gibernau first looked down at his Honda before slowly cruising to a halt.

With Gibernau retiring from the race, hard-fighting Loris Capirossi came back from a lacklustre start from a good qualifying position. Dropping down to sixth behind team-mate Checa on the opening lap, the Ducati rider managed to come back through the field and looked good for a third until inheriting the second place.

And it became an all-Italian podium, with Max Biaggi coming through from a fourth row start.

Jeremy McWilliams retired in the opening stages on the Proton KR.
