Brivio denies F1 quote

Valentino Rossi’s team boss Davide Brivio has denied reports that he said the Italian World Champion would be heading to Formula 1 in 2007.

Rossi has recently committed to spending another year with Yamaha in MotoGP but Brivio was reported as saying that he was definitely going to F1 the year after.

However Brivio says that he was miss quoted: “I think it’s important to set the record straight about some comments reported in the Italian media this morning as they seem to have appeared elsewhere now.

“I said that we are going to start working on an extension to Valentino’s contract and we will be discussing it after Mugello. I was then asked about any plan Valentino might have to drive in Formula One and I said that would be Valentino’s decision and it might happen.

“I certainly did not say that he would be in F1 from 2007. From Yamaha’s side we hope that he will still be riding for us but I cannot predict Valentino’s future.”

Rossi has made no comment on the matter so far but it is well known that he harbours a strong desire to race cars. He has race in the World Rally championship a number of times and he even tested for the Ferrari F1 team last year.

There have also been rumours that Ducati is preparing to offer Rossi a massive deal to join the Italian mark at the end of his contract.
