Gibernau top 1st practice

1 of 1

Sete Gibernau has set the fastest lap on the first day of practice for the Malaysian GP.

Gibernau set the 2:03.299 lap in the opening practice session with rain hitting the afternoon session stopping anyone from going any faster.

Brit Shane Byrne is well down in 18th place, over 5 seconds off the pace, in his first ride on the Camel Honda as replacement rider for Troy Bayliss.

Kenny Roberts looks like he is trying to impress any potential employers for next year, setting the second fastest lap behind Gibernau in the dry session then topping the wet second session by more than two tenths of a second.

Loris Capirossi beat Rossi to the third fastest time by just 0.008 seconds, 0.178 seconds down on Gibernau.
