Hayden fastest in Turkey

Nicky Hayden has gone fastest in the second practice session for the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday April 30, 2006.

The factory Honda rider moved from eighth in the final few minutes to post a time of 1:53.623 seconds before the chequered flag ended the session. The American took the fastest time away from Casey Stoner, who led for much of the time on the LCR Honda, despite crashing the bike when he lost the front and escaped unhurt.

The Yamaha teams have had mixed fortunes. Colin Edwards is sixth quickest, but reigning world champion Valentino Rossi is 11th. Meanwhile the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP squad suffered a machine failure, when Chris Vermeulen had to pull off the track, trailing smoke behind him. The 250cc first qualifying was headed by Jorge Lorenzo on the Fortuna Aprilia. The Spanish rider posted a fastest time of 1:57.41. Second quickest was Alex De Angelis, on the MVA Aspar Aprili, followed by Humagest Honda team-mates Andrea Dovizioso and Yuki Takahashi. British rider Chaz Davies was 20th fastest with 2:01.940. In the 125cc first qualifying session, Alvaro Bautista was fastest with 2:04.035, followed by Master MVA Aspar Aprilia team-mate Mattia Pasini on 2:04.385. Casey Stoner has gone fastest in the first free practice for the Grand Prix of Turkey on Sunday, April 30, 2006.

Conditions at the Istanbul park circuit were good for Stoner on the Honda LCR machine,as he posted a time of 1:54.276 on his 22nd and final lap. Marco Melandri went second quickest on the Fortuna Honda with 1:54.544, followed by Valentino Rossi in third with 1:54.671. Britain’s James Ellison was 18th fastest with 1:58.797 on the Tech3 Yamaha, three places behind team-mate Carlos Checa. To see the full time sheet, click here.

In the 250cc first practice, Andrea Dovizioso was fastest with 1:59.746 on the Humangest Honda, followed by the Fortuna Aprilia of Jorge Lorenzo (2:00.065) and the Team Toth Aprilia of Roberto Locatelli (2:00.344). To see the full time sheet, click here.

In the first practice for the 125cc class for the Turkish GP, Mattia Pasini has posted the fastest time of 2:05.741, closely followed by MVA Aspar Aprilia team-mate Alvaro Bautista. Mike Kallio is third on the KTM 125.
