Edwards: No US boost

Colin Edwards reckons Nicky Hayden’s stunning 2006 world championship success will have no impact on elevating MotoGP’s status in America.

The Texas Tornado said motorcycle racing’s popularity across the Atlantic would not be affected by Hayden’s stunning final round success over Valentino Rossi in Valencia which made him the first American to win the title in six years. Double World Superbike champion Edwards said: “It will never change. You have American football, baseball, basketball and NASCAR so there are too many sports.

“Nicky’s win won’t matter at all sadly.”
