MotoGP: Free practice 2

Marco Melandri has topped the second free practice sessions for the German MotoGP round on Sunday, July 16, 2006.

The Fortuna Honda rider posted a time of 1:23.145 on his penultimate lap to go fastest from Respol Honda star Dani Pedrosa. Loris Capirossi was third, with Nicky Hayden and Kenny Roberts rounding out the top five. Valentino Rossi settled for seventh fastest, while Britain’s James Ellison was again 19th.

Both randy de Puniet and Jose Luis Cardoso fell during the session, with Valentino Rossi running off the track but remaining upright.

In 125cc first qualifying, Mattia Pasini put himself on provisional pole on the MVA Aprilia with a time of 1:27.546 from Lukas Pesek and Mika Kallio. Bradley Smith is in 22nd place on the grid.

In the 250cc class, Jorge Lorenzo and Fortuna Aprilia team-mate Hector Barbera posted the top two times, with Alex de Angelis third fastest. Britain’s Dan Linfoot improved to 27th on the Teng Tools Winona racing machine.
