GP: Pedrosa stays top

Dani Pedrosa has dominated the first day of the British GP weekend by heading both timed practice sessions.

The Repsol Honda rider posted a fastest time of 1:28.970 to put himself fastest, just ahead of Anglo-American Rizla Suzuki rider John Hopkins, and Honda-powered Casey Stoner. Britain’s James Ellison finished the session 16th fastest, ahead of Ivan Silva and Jose Luis Cardoso. Loris Capirossi again sat out the practice session to recover from injuries sustained at the Catalunya GP.

In 250cc first qualifying, Jorge Lorenzo put himself on provisional pole from Alex de Angelis and Hector Barbera. Chaz Davies is 21st, with Dan Linfoot 22nd.

In the first qualifying session for the 125cc class, Bradley Smith put himself in a provisional 15th place, around 1.5 seconds behind leaders Alvaro Bautista, Mika Kallio and Mattia Pasini. British wildcard Alex Lowes is 39th, followed by Daniel Cooper and Blake Leigh-Smith. Both Kyle kentish and Anthony Rogers were outside the 107 per cent qualification limit.
