Aoayam shatters Kato's Jerez 250GP lap record

KTM’s Hiroshi Aoyama has smashed 1.6s off Daijiro Kato’s long-standing 250 lap record at Jerez.

The Japanese rider, who rejected a move to Kawasaki’s MotoGP squad at the end of last season, set an impressive time of 1.42.82 as several top 250 riders kicked off their 2007 preparations in Spain.

Aoyama’s best time was a massive 2.2s faster than Hector Barbera’s quickest lap in the 2006 Spanish GP.

Second fastest was Alex de Angelis with a best of 1.43.2 clocked on day two.
