Elias battled his way through from 11th on the grid to take the win, his first after two seasons in the top flight which could help him secure a ride for 2007.

It wasn’t only the Repsol pairing who hit the deck either. Gibernau, Stoner and Nakano all crashed early on promoting Gary McCoy and the 800cc Ilmor into a championship point scoring place to finish 15th.

Valentino Rossi now leads the title from Hayden by eight points and Kenny Roberts Jnr secured the final spot on the podium. For more background on todays race read MCN out on October 18.
