Makoto Tamada will split with the Konica Minolta Honda team following a lacklustre season.

The decision not to renew the 29-year-old’s contract after the end of the 2006 season was made following disappointing results over the past two years.

The Japanese rider has spent four years with the team and has been the most successful Japanese rider in MotoGP with wins in Motegi and Rio in 2004.

The 990cc Honda rider will leave the team after the finale of the MotoGP season in Valencia this weekend.
