Elias backs Honda

Spaniard Toni Elias has backed Honda to turn its new RC212V 800cc machine into a race winner from the start of the 2007 MotoGP season.

The Gresini rider, who played a massive role in the destiny of the world title last season with his Estoril victory and first corner collision in Jerez with Valentino Rossi, said it was clear that Honda’s new V4 needed more horsepower.

But he believes Honda will get it right in time for the season’s opening race in Qatar on March 10.

“In Phillip Island at the last test with only one straight it is not such a problem. But I believe in Honda. They always make good engines, very fast every year. Now it’s a problem but not in the future,”said Elias, who again partners Marco Melandri in 2007.
