Edwards: 'BHP to spare'

Colin Edwards reckons Yamaha has played it safe so far in the new 800cc MotoGP era and still has plenty more engine performance to come before the start of the 2007 season in Qatar.

The Texas Tornado is expecting engine upgrades when he returns to the track in Sepang on February 5, as Yamaha will not test in Phillip Island next week.

The double World Superbike champion, who finished second fastest on race tyres at the first winter test of 2007 in Malaysia, said: “We are running them a bit slow at the moment. It’s just reliability tests so instead of chucking an engine in every night I think we are running on a reliability margin. There’s more power coming.”
