Repsol to stay with Honda MotoGP squad

Repsol has agreed a new two-year extension to stay as title sponsor of Honda’s official factory team.

MCN understands the new deal was clinched after Spaniard Dani Pedrosa’s first win in 12 months at last weekend’s German GP at the Sachsenring.

Pedrosa’s dominant success was also the first win in a year for the Repsol Honda squad, which prior to Germany hadn’t won a premier class since Nicky Hayden’s success at Laguna Seca.

Repsol has been title sponsor of Honda’s factory squad since 1995 and has enjoyed unrivalled success in MotoGP, with Mick Doohan, Alex Criville, Valentino Rossi and Hayden all winning world championships in their colours.

The deal is expected too be announced next week in Barcelona. Honda’s next priority will be to secure the services of Pedrosa, who as yet hasn’t signed an extension to his own contract. The triple world champion’s two-year deal expires at the end of the 2007 MotoGP world championship.
