Catalunya GP: Smith third on second morning

British teenager Bradley Smith has continued his impressive Catalunya GP form after clocking the third fastest time in this morning’s 125 free practice session.

Smith, who was second fastest in yesterday’s opening free practice and seventh quickest in first qualifying, clocked a best lap of 1.50.834 on his 20th lap.

That was only 0.210s slower than Sergio Gadea, who set the best time with a 1.50.624. The Repsol Honda rider was only 0.034s slower than second placed Mattia Pasini as he came close to snatching the best time.

On his final lap Smith was fastest through the first two sections and on course to top the timesheets but lost 0.2s in the last two timed sectors.

Smith will be chasing only his second front row start in this afternoon’s decisive qualifying session. He was on the front row at last month’s French GP in Le Mans and went on to become the youngest British rider in GP history to claim a podium when he finished third.
