Brno MotoGP: James Toseland to use updated Yamaha engine

James Toseland and Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate Colin Edwards will run updated Yamaha YZR-M1 engines in this weekend’s Czech Republic MotoGP round at Brno.

Toseland confirmed he will run the revised spec in-line four-cylinder motor, which is the same one used by current world championship leader Valentino Rossi since the start of the 2008 campaign.

The engine has a small step in horsepower but also has the option to run as many as 1000 extra rpm compared to the motor that Toseland and Edwards have used in the opening 11 races of the campaign.

Tech 3 has been given the updated spec with Fiat Yamaha rider Rossi preparing to use a new motor on the opening day of Brno free practice tomorrow. Rossi’s motor features revised electronics to improve traction control and more rpm.
