MotoGP: Suzuki predict tough challenge in 2008

Factory Suzuki team boss Paul Denning believes the task of improving on a brilliant 2007 campaign will be tougher than ever for the Japanese factory.

A new engine, chassis, fairing and electronics package has boosted Suzuki’s confidence that Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi can mount a serious threat for the world title this year.

Optimism is high after John Hopkins claimed a brilliant fourth place in the inaugural 800cc campaign.

Chris Vermeulen was sixth in the championship and claimed a historic first four-stroke victory for Suzuki at the French MotoGP in Le Mans.

But Paul Denning told MCN: “I think to match our results of last year is a bigger job this season.

“It will be a massive battle to improve on last year but our clear target is to try and fight for the world championship.

“But looking at the entry list there is a strong rider on a good bike and tyres in every single garage.

“Any of them having a purple patch day will be capable of fighting at the front.”
