Nicky Hayden has told MCN that Jorge Lorenzo would be taking a massive gamble if he opted to quit Yamaha and complete a multi-million pound switch to Ducati.

Lorenzo has been locked in negotiations with Ducati and Marlboro management as they try and tempt him with a massive pay hike to quit Yamaha’s factory squad.

Ducati’s pursuit of the Spaniard has intensified with mystery surrounding the future of Ducati’s number one rider and former world champion Casey Stoner.

Hayden, who could be frozen out of Ducati’s factory team should Lorenzo quit Yamaha, said: “I heard they’ve got the cheque book out. It would be interesting and it would be a brave move but money talks.

“It seems like Jorge is in a pretty good spot where here is now but I don’t know all the ins and outs. But I’m sure this Lorenzo deal is on the front-burner.”
