Casey Stoner: Lorenzo made us look silly

Casey Stoner reckons Spanish GP winner Jorge Lorenzo made his rivals look silly after the Fiat Yamaha rider’s brilliant late victory in Jerez last weekend.

Lorenzo fought back from fifth place in the early stages to close down a four-second deficit on bitter rival Dani Pedrosa to win his first premier class race on home soil.

And Aussie Casey Stoner told MCN that he was full of admiration for Lorenzo’s startling victory that moved the 23-year-old to the top of the world championship rankings after two races.

Lorenzo now leads Italian team-mate Valentino Rossi by four-points ahead of the French GP at Le Mans on May 23.

Assessing Lorenzo’s virtuoso Jerez display, Stoner told MCN: “He seemed to have better grip than everyone and was driving out of all the turns. While everybody else was spinning  up out of the tight corners he was just driving out.

“Other than that he rode a damn good race and made the rest look silly. If Jorge had not dropped so far back at the beginning he would have gone away at the front. He rode a great race.”
