Scott Redding ended a rain-hit second Moto2 practice session at the Motorland Aragon circuit with the third quickest time this afternoon.

The 17-year-old, who was 11th in this morning’s session, clocked a best lap of 1.56.424 to finish behind Italian duo Mattia Pasini and Alex de Angelis.

That time had actually put Redding on top of the leaderboard by over 0.3s from Swiss rider Thomas Luthi.

He ended up 0.026s behind de Angelis in second and 0.056s adrift of Pasini’s best time.

Pasini and De Angelis had just dropped the Marc VDS Racing rider to third when rain started to fall on the new Motorland Aragon track.

It was heavy enough to wet the track surface but not sufficient to require a switch to wet weather tyres and most of the field remained in the pits for the final 15 minutes.
Redding’s best time put him sixth quickest on combined times.

Scottish rider Kev Coghlan was ninth quickest with a best lap of 1.57.158. That left him just 0.790s behind Pasini but just 0.155s behind Italian Andrea Iannone in eighth. On combined times he was seventh overall with Iannone’s best of 1.56.223 from this morning keeping him at the top of the rankings.

World championship leader Toni Elias was only 20th fastest with a best time of 1.57.677. But he was ninth overall thanks to a 1.56.704 set this morning.
