Indy MotoGP: Cal Crutchlow blasts ‘idiot’ Loris Capirossi

Cal Crutchlow branded Loris Capirossi an ‘idiot’ after he had to run off track in the final stages of qualifying to avoid a collision with the Italian veteran in Indianapolis.

Crutchlow was trying to improve on his best lap time of 1.40.620 in the final two minutes when he came across Pramac Ducati rider Capirossi cruising on the racing line at Turn 13.

Crutchlow was forced to take evasive action and he ran into the gravel at high speed having narrowly avoided running into the back of Capirossi’s GP11 Desmosedici machine.

The incident prevented Crutchlow from improving on his time and he will start the 28-lap race later today from 11th position on the grid.

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team rider told MCN: “I don’t know what he is doing because he did it three times in one session. He’s the oldest guy on the grid and he should know better.

“I’m not saying I was suddenly going to be in the top five but it was dangerous. It could have been a lot worse. He did it to de Puniet at the last race in Brno and Randy crashed and that’s his team-mate.

“He made me take avoiding action because he was cruising on the racing line. Three corners before he’d looked behind him and again one corner before, so he knew I was coming and I was on a fast lap. He does it all of the time.

“Earlier in the session I’d already had to wave arms at him and then he goes and does it again. He’s just an idiot but when he’s last anyway, what is he gaining?”

Crutchlow went to speak to Capirossi in the Pramac garage and he added: “I went down and he just shrugged his shoulders but he must have looked behind and saw me in the gravel.”
