Catalunya MotoGP: Bradl wins Moto2 race from pole

1 of 1

German Stefan Bradl has won an incident-packed Moto2 race at Ctalunya after starting from pole position.

Stefan Bradl was unable to pull away from the res of the pack early on, but a crash from Thomas Luthi which also collected Yuki Takahashi saw the field open up a little. Bradley Smith was lucky to stay on the bike during the incident, but lost a few places.

Bradl started to pull away from second place Julian Simon and Kenan Sofuoglu, and with seven laps to go, Sofuoglu tried to go up the inside of Julian Simon.

Sofuoglu couldn’t get his bike stopped in time and hit the back wheel of Simon, sending the second place man cartwheeling into the air. Sofuoglu’s bike then clipped the tumbling Simon, also sending the Turk into the gravel. Both riders walked away.

With most of the pack throwing their bikes into the gravel 125GP champion Marc Marquez was able to quietly make his way to the front to eventually finish second.

Local rider Aleix Espagaro finished third to record his first ever GP podium.

Smith was battling for fifth place on the final lap, but while attempting to outbrake Esteve Rabat lost control of his Tech 3 machine and ran straight on and into the gravel. Smith was able to rejoin the race to finish 19th. Fellow Brit Scott Redding finished 11th.
