Tech 3 rules out Moto3 bid

Cal Crutchlow’s Tech 3 Racing squad will not expand its Grand Prix effort to be involved in all three world championship classes in 2012.

The French-based squad already competes in MotoGP with Crutchlow and Texan Colin Edwards, while it entered the inaugural Moto2 class last season and will run Bradley Smith and Mike di Meglio in 2011.

Yamaha’s recent confirmation to MCN that it is working on a new 250cc four-stroke project for the new Moto3 class next year will not involve further expansion for Herve Poncharal’s Tech 3 outfit.

Poncharal told MCN: “For me it is easy to say we’ll go and do it. I was really excited about doing Moto2 but it has been difficult. It has been one of the most exciting things we have done for years but it has been tough. I would love to have a Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP team. That would be the ultimate goal but right now I can’t see that happening. It is better to do two classes well than spreading the resources too thin. The decision will be linked mainly on the financial side. I won’t jump in Moto3 like we did in Moto2 without the financial support. That would be a mistake.”

The Moto3 class will replace the current 125GP two-stroke series.
