Sepang MotoGP: Luthi takes first Moto2 pole

Interwetten rider Thomas Luthi has secured his first Moto2 pole position, beating title hopeful Stefan Bradl at the Sepang circuit.

Stefan Bradl and Michel Pirro complete the front row in second and third respectively.

125GP champion Marc Marquez only completed two laps to secure a place on the grid after a crash during free practice on Friday saw him sit out the other sessions, complaining of dizzyness. Marquez will start from 36th on the grid if he decides to race, in an attempt to keep his title hopes alive.

Brit Bradley Smith also crashed at the same corner as Marquez moments later. Smith high-sided his Tech 3 machine and collided with Marquez’s bike in the gravel trap, breaking his left collarbone. Smith will sit out this weekend.

Lone Brit Scott Redding qualified ninth.
