Scott Redding in awe of Stoner and Lorenzo

Scott Redding admitted his admiration for MotoGP stars like Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo has rocketed after he made his 1000cc debut on a Ducati GP12 at Mugello earlier this month.

The British teenager completed almost 130 laps on board a Desmosedici when he was offered the chance to showcase his talents in front of senior Ducati management over a two-day test session in Italy.

Redding produced an impressive performance despite having never ridden a MotoGP prototype before and he had never used carbon brakes, Bridgestone tyres or experienced the high level of sophisticated rider aids like anti-wheelie and traction control.

The experience was certainly an eye opener for the 19-year-old from Gloucestershire, who said he was most impressed by the top speed, acceleration and braking performance from a 1000cc prototype machine.

And the Marc VDS Racing Moto2 rider said experiencing how mentally and physically demanding it is to ride a 1000cc MotoGP prototype had only increased the respect he has for reigning world champion Stoner and current MotoGP series leader Lorenzo.

Redding, who is waiting to see whether he has secured a switch to MotoGP in 2013, told MCN: “Now I know what they are doing having ridden one of those bikes myself, those boys like Stoner and Lorenzo are something pretty special and you can understand just how fast and talented they are.

“After I rode the Ducati I must admit I take my hat off to them. It is an animal to ride and you have to grit your teeth at every corner and if you are not giving 100% for every tenth of the lap you’re not going to be able to ride it.”
