Danny Kent thrilled but surprised at Moto3 pace

British teenager Danny Kent admitted he surprised himself with his blistering speed during last week’s Moto3 test at the Jerez track in Spain.

The 18-year-old was in untouchable form throughout the three-day session and a best lap of 1.47.1 comfortably put him top of the timesheets with Maverick Vinales in second but 0.4s further back.

Kent’s brilliant performance in Jerez came hot on the heels of him setting the fourth fastest time in Valencia earlier this month and he’s made an immediate impact in the 250cc four-stroke Moto3 class.

He told MCN: “I am really happy with the way things are going. I’ve clicked immediately with the Moto3 four-stroke and KTM have done a fantastic job with the new bike.

“The good thing is because it is still in the early stages of development the bike is going to get a lot better during the season.

“To be honest I have surprised myself a little bit with how quickly I’ve adapted to the bike and how fast I have been but it is still early days and I don’t want to get too carried away.

“Hopefully I can go back to Jerez next month and do the same again and make a few more steps forward and perhaps come away fastest again.”
