Silverstone Moto3: Vinales takes pole with ease

Maverick Vinales has taken his first pole position since Le Mans back in May, rounding out a trio of P1 finishes this weekend at Silverstone.

He beat championship rival Alex Rins by 0.192, blowing away the best Moto3 lap ever around the 3.66 mile track by almost three full seconds to finish on a 2’13.507 lap, and bettering the old 125cc lap record in the process.

Fellow KTM rider Luis Salom was third, while first on the second row was the first of the Hondas, with another excellent qualifying for Australian Jack Miller, albeit over a second back on Vinales.

Scottish rider John McPhee was in nineteenth, as he continues to make progress on his Caretta Technology FTR Honda. However, he is struggling with a lack of speed from his Honda at the fast circuit.

Racing Steps KRP Honda riders Wayne Ryan and Kyle Ryde, wildcarding this weekend, were at the back of the field, 3rd and 35th respectively, and over four seconds back on the leader. However, both riders were at a pace that would have left them some 5 seconds clear of the rest of the field in the British championship race last year.
