HRC has lauded Marc Marquez as a unique talent after the Spaniard joined Mick Doohan, Alex Criville, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner in an illustrious list of MotoGP world champions for Repsol Honda.

Marquez secured Honda’s second premier class title in the last three years courtesy of a third place in his final round title decider with Jorge Lorenzo in Valencia earlier this month.

Marquez cemented his place in Honda history by becoming the first rookie to win the premier class title in more 35 years and HRC boss Livio Suppo told MCN: “What he has done is something unique. We expected him to be very fast but I think it is the fact that he has been so constant that is simply unbelievable. With a rookie you don’t really need to have any expectations. The first goal for the season was to learn and show the potential and collect data and experience for 2014, so there was really no expectation to win the championship at all.”

Suppo said the most impressive aspect of Marquez’s season was his ability to learn fast and progress at a rapid rate.

“We have almost forgotten that at the beginning of the season on Friday morning he was always struggling and now already in FP1 he is fast and it means in a few months he has been able to grow a lot in terms of how he can immediately feel good on the bike and understand what to do and that is really unbelievable. The biggest plus for Marc is his character and the fact that he is always enjoying life. He does everything like it is a hobby and he is doing it for amusement and this is a big plus for him because it helps to keep the pressure away and keep a positive mind-set, “added the Italian.
