Phillip Island MotoGP: Lorenzo wins with masterclass

1 of 1

Jorge Lornezo put on a riding masterclass to take victory at Phillip Island and keep his hopes of a third MotoGP title alive.

The race was shortened to 21 laps, with the riders forced to pit no later than 10 laps. Dani Pedrosa was the first to enter the pits with Lorenzo coming in a lap later and Marc Marquez a lap later still.

As Marquez rejoined the track he collided with Lorenzo who was much faster through the first corner.

Marquez, who could have won the championship this weekend, was disqualified for entering the pits a lap too late. Lorenzo now trails Maquez by 18 points with two rounds remaining.

Dani Pedrosa finished second.

Factory Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi took the third step on the podium after coming out on top in a race long battle with Cal Crutchlow and Alvaro Bautista who finished fourth and fifth respectively.
