Silverstone MotoGP: Marquez dislocates shoulder in warmup

1 of 1

Championship leader and winner of the past four races, Marc Marquez, has crashed out of morning warmup at Silverstone, dislocating his collarbone and potentially leaving him unfit to defend his win streak in this afternoon’s British Grand Prix.

The rookie sensation was yet another victim of cold track temperatures, crashing in a session that saw Cal Crutchlow, Michele Pirro, Yonny Hernandez and Nicky Hayden also go down.

In fact, Crutchlow and the Racesafe marshals attending his accident were fortunate to walk away, after Marquez suffered a similar accident to the Brit, with his bike hurtling towards them before collecting Crutchlow’s fallen Tech 3 Yamaha.

Marquez’s crash will raise yet more questions about the ability of the Bridgestone tyres to deal with cold track temperatures – his crash means that all three of the championship favourites have now suffered shoulder injuries after crashing in early-morning sessions on cold tracks.

Marquez was taken to the medical centre at Silverstone where the doctors were able to pop his shoulder back into the socket, but it’s unsure at this point whether he will be fit to race this afternoon.
