Suzuki not committed to wild card races in 2014

Suzuki has no plans to thrust its new 1000cc factory prototype into direct competition against Honda and Yamaha in 2014.

It was thought that Suzuki would make selected wild card appearances next season to ensure its new 1000cc contender returns race ready and competitive in 2015.

By throwing itself into direct competition against dominant Japanese rivals Honda and Yamaha, Suzuki would at least understand the performance potential of its new bike in the heat of battle.

But after recent top-level management meetings in Japan last month, current test team boss Davide Brivio said the topic of wild cards was discussed but no plans have been implemented for the new Suzuki to make its race debut ahead of 2015.

Brivio told MCN: “At the moment there is no plan for wild cards in 2014. My personal opinion is on one side we have announced that we will only return in 2015, so it would make sense to only start racing then from a business and communication point of view. From a pure technical point of view it would be very helpful to have the chance to check our performance against the competition and then have a few months to react because it is only in racing that you really understand the level of the rider and the bike.”
