Assen Moto2: West takes victory in wet race

1 of 1

Anthony West took his first Grand Prix victory in 11 years in a wet Moto2 race at Assen today.

Brit Sam Lowes took the lead early in the race before being relegated to second by Simone Corsi. Lowes looked comfortable in second place, before crashing twice with 16 laps to go.

Corsi crashed out of the lead several laps later, but remounted to finish 13th.

After a tentative start Maverick Vinales made his way upto second place, breifly taking the lead from West late on in the race after the leading group caught back marker Dominique Aegerter. West quickly retook the lead and controlled it to the finish.

Marc VDS rider Mika Kallio finished third behind Vinales after Luis Salom crashed out.

Brit Gino Rea made the most of the tricky conditions, finishing in 11th place after running off the track.
