'Fantastic morning' for consistent Lorenzo

Jorge Lorenzo set the pace on Day 2 at Sepang and afterwards the Yamaha rider was clearly excited by the progress made by his team in the morning and his ability to set consistent laptimes.

When asked about his morning, when he set 12 laps in the 2m00s range, Lorenzo commented that the early stints were “fantastic” and that while the team lost some of the balance in the afternoon it was clear that he was very satisfied with the day:

“The morning was fantastic,” said Lorenzo. “So long that I didn’t feel so great, compared to the other riders, with so much good pace. Today we had half-a-second or seven tenths advantage for two or three hours. It is so long since I had this pace, this feeling. It was not only the 1m 59.9 lap and the 2m 0.00. I could be in 2m 0 quite comfortably even in high temperatures.”

When the track temperature soared in the afternoon the balance shifted for every rider, Valentino Rossi complained of chattering, and it’s likely that this played a role in changing the handling of Lorenzo’s bike in the second half of today’s eight hour session.

“After lunch we tried many things on the other bike and I didn’t have the same feeling as the morning. So tomorrow is going to be important to have the same feeling with both bikes. But in general the day is very good. I like a lot the Yamaha. I think at this moment it is very complete. We just need to improve the braking. If we can do that at the next test for sure we are going to be very prepared for Qatar.”

Lorenzo once again stressed that while the Yamaha has improved in mid-corner and exit there are still gains to be made under braking.
