Lowes confident after progress at test

After a successful test in Aragon Sam Lowes is ready to take the challenge to the top riders in Moto2. The Speed Up rider has struggled all year when temperatures start to rise but having made plenty of progress in the searing Spanish heat last week he’s now confident that solutions have been found.

This year Lowes has looked impressive on the Speed Up and has consistently looked ready to make the step to being a consistent podium finisher but a lack of confidence and decisiveness within the camp has held them back.

“We’ve been making too many unforced errors over the last few races,” said Lowes. “Maybe choosing the wrong tyre because it’s what everyone else has been using. I’ve been making mistakes too because I lack experience and we’ve got to be braver and base our decisions on our data and not on what other people are doing.”

When asked about the test Lowes offered his assessment by saying that he’s confident for Montmelo and that he expects to be able to a pace setter this weekend.

“It got hotter every day in the test and it was 58C in the afternoon. It was exactly what we needed. In the morning I was fast and did a 12 lap run in the 53’s, which is faster than last year’s pole time, but a lot of people have done those types of times in the morning sessions at Aragon because it’s cooler. But in the afternoon I did a 53.9s which was quick. I was pushing hard and giving it everything that I had but we find a lot in the heat.

“We started at half two when it was hot and with the same setup as the morning we were doing high 54’s but we were still quicker than the other guys there. I came back into the pits and we put in a new shock, different internals to what we’ve used, and we found a little bit all the time with small setup changes. We did a 22 lap at the end of the day in about 52C track temperature and every lap was in the 54’s so that was good. Last year I qualified on a 54.9 and it wasn’t that hot last year!”
