Oliviera wins at Phillip Island, Kent forced to wait

1 of 1

Phillip Island always provides classic racing and in the opening race of the day it provided plenty of thrills and spills with Miguel Oliviera winning. A crash for Danny Kent left the Englishman on the verge of the title but having to wait another week to try and clinch the crown.

Kent crashed out of the race at two thirds distance with the Englishman having been tagged by Niccolo Antonelli as he tried to ride around the outside of the Italian at the Southern Loop. With Enea Bastianini also crashing out of the race the incident left Kent on the verge of winning the world title but it was dependant on the result of Miguel Oliveira.

With the Portuguese rider needing to finish on the podium to keep his title hopes alive the six man dice for the win offered a thrilling conclusion to the race with Brad Binder fighting to the front of the field after overcoming a three second deficit. The race would be won by the rider who best handles the slipstream and despite leading on the straight on the last lap Oliviera was able to come through and claim the win.
