Zarco claims Moto2 world championship

1 of 1

Johann Zarco became the sixth French rider to win a Grand Prix world championship with the Ajo Motorsport rider claiming the intermediate class crown this morning following Tito Rabat’s withdrawal from this weekend’s race at Motegi.

Zarco, who finished runner-up to Nico Terol in the 2011 125cc championship, has had a sterling year that has seen him consistently finish on the podium and win six Grand Prix. His return to the Ajo stable rejuvenated him and allowed him to show the same form this year that he showed in that title battle with Terol.

Zarco join Jean-Louis Tournadre, Christian Sarron and Olivier Jacque as French intermediate class champions  with Arnaud Vincent and Mike di Meglio the other French world champions.

Zarco had already confirmed that he would return to Moto2 in 2016 regardless of the outcome of the championship.
